Five Minute Friday - Backwards.










 


It's Friday again and this weeks prompt from Gypsy Mama, is BACKWARDS.

So here goes:

How perfect that this would be this weeks prompt, as we are getting ready to head and go BACKWARDS in time to 1861. We have been Civil War reenacting this year as a family and it has been a great time. Back in April we attended an event at Ft. Steilacoom (near Tacoma, WA) and our oldest daughter, age 13, said the best part was just being together.

This weekend we are able to stay pretty close to home at Ft. Simcoe and I am glad to say the weather is gorgeous for camping out.

The reason we like going BACKWARDS in time varies from each one of us, I am sure if you asked a group of reenactors why, you would get a dozen reasons. I love doing it because it seems to bring joy to everyone in the family. My history buff husband likes the meaning and remembering of it all, it took our nation much loss to have great gain and understanding of true freedoms. My son, age 15, love the action of the battles and the fact that he loves history helps too. I think my oldest loves the dressing up part and my youngest just loves being with Mom.

If there are any reenactments near you I encourage you to go, with it being the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War this year there are lots of folks stepping BACKWARDS in time.

The topic of Backwards was perfect for your summer activities! How neat to share the experience of going back in time as a family. I love seeing history come to life, thanks for sharing!

This will be the only year we live in the Boston area. I really wanted to go to the Battle of Lexington reenactment on Patriots Day but we skipped it. People have to get tix way in advance. We were offered tix but I just couldn't see getting our 1.5yo and 4yo up at 4:30a.m. I think our 6 yo could have done it, though.

45 & Counting

The days ahead of my birthday were filled with wonderful times, friends and reflection on my part. I'm blessed to have these handful of ladies to be doing life with right now. They challenge me in striving to lean on God, look to His Word in scripture and I'm reminded I'm loved, as well to humble myself. They all love Jesus and each adds a great JOY to my days.  I've been given a life underserved. With days of grace and mercy, He pours out on me, a love I still don't fully comprehend.  The richness of blessing that is my husband. His amazing example of love through serving. I was spoiled for days, with dinner, gifts, breakfast, more gifts, lunch, flowers, and yes more gifts. Multitudes on Monday..

Wow ~~~~ the Lord is so gracious! I have missed reading and participating in such a great community of believer's and counting the grace, the good and the 'not how I planned it' but God knew what He was doing days.
